Tarangire National Park is a hidden gem, a secret oasis of wildlife and wilderness that lies in the shadow of its more famous neighbors, Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater. It is named after the Tarangire River that flows through the park, providing a vital lifeline for the animals that flock to its banks during the dry season (July to October) 1. It is the sixth largest national park in Tanzania, covering an area of 2,850 km 2 (1,100 sq mi) in the Manyara Region 2.
